Robin Wood is a wood turner who makes traditional bowls and plates with a traditional spring pole wood lathe.
Actually, to call him a wood turner would be sort of like calling a wife a cook. Robin is a man of many talents who knows traditional English crafts, can hand forge tools the rest of us didn't even know ever existed, hand carves spoons, and seems to be able to do just about anything else he wants to do.
I don't like to air people's dirty laundry in public, but it is public knowledge now, and I have to warn you, there is a dark side to Robin. You see, in spite of his many amazing talents, Robin likes to work. Yes, unbelievable as it might seem, he actually enjoys getting out and doing real, honest-to-goodness, backbreaking, creative work.
And I thought his ilk had gone the way of his beloved spring pole lathe and the dirt that used to fill the Grand Canyon.
Take the time to read about it in his latest masterfully conceived blog post. For you crafts people and history buffs, I am posting a video of him below.
